New bag

Now the warmer weather is here and I'm not wearing a coat all the time I need a bag to carry my phone, purse and keys.
I have cut up an old pair of jeans, sheet and a delicious piece of park slope by Erin mcMorris. A bit of reverse appliqué which I may add a bit of hand stitching to.....

How do you quilt the "wonky"?

This is my second attempt - I started Sunday with pebbles in a variegated thread which I then ripped out yesterday evening.
This I like!

More improv piecing....

It might not look like much but this took over 2 hours, apparently random and wonky are much harder when you set out to do them deliberately!

Cushion panel?

I won a copy of quilting modern by jacquie gering and Katie pedersen last year. I have often taken it out and looked through it. Today I started a cushion panel inspired by their winging it pillow......

Clock finished!

Took me a lot longer than I anticipated, but finally, it is finished! Now to get it properly hung on the wall....

Rainbow clock

I have been gathering things up recently for my new sewing room. One thing I wanted but couldn't find was a rainbow clock or colour wheel clock so I decided to make my own.
I was given a long time ago a curtain sample set of swatches. I dug them out and laid them out in a rainbow wheel? Then I drafted a paper pattern, copied it a few times and started to sew....

Cushion making with d4

On the weekend d4 and I made a cushion from an upcycled pair of jeans, some curtain fabric and various old bits of clothing. This is a present for a friend of hers, now it's done she thinks she'd like to make 4 more including one for herself. I'd better get searching for some more old jeans in my wardrobe.....

Oven gloves

When my husband made a request for me to sew some new oven gloves I got straight on it! Not often there is something he wants me to make.....
First I quilted 2 layers of insulbrite between some fabric, then I found a pattern I had previously used which I modified a bit. Drew around it, stitched on the line with a stitch length of 1.5, trimmed, overlocked, clipped between finger and thumb, turned right side out and added some binding and voila a pair of new oven gloves.

Love pillow

Well, I thought I'd turn the incorrect sized letters V and L into a little pillow for d2 for valentines day......
Took a lot longer Than I thought, but it is finished now!

Finished, with a week to spare

Well, I've finally made the LOVE blocks and I'm mailing them off today!
This has been an enjoyable but challenging experience and I'm sure I'll make more paper pieced blocks in the future.

LOVE- probably not a good description of my first attempt at paper piecing....

When Kristy of http://quietplay.blogspot.com.au/ asked for volunteers to test a new paper piecing pattern I sent her a message that although I've never paper pieced before I was willing to give it a go.
The pattern duly arrived and Kristy assigned me LOVE in capitals as they are easier than lower case apparently!
First I printed out the pattern letters and read the instructions. I thought I'd start with V as it had the least pieces- big mistake, those angles really got me! Lots of unpicking and looking at tutorials online and I thought I had it. Only, I hadn't read the instructions before I'd printed out he pattern, so I hadn't printed it out without scaling, the result? A block that was 1/4 inch too small ********!
Start again and this time the letters L and O have been made, hurrah.
Hopefully tomorrow I'll be able to tackle V (again) and E. I'll let you know.

2013, a new beginning?

I am hoping to post about my Projects more often. I have been sewing many items but they were presents. This year I am hoping to sew more for myself. My eldest daughter is leaving home for work in Uganda and I am able to use her room as a sewing space. Once I have my new area set out I am hoping to have some time every day to sew. My sewing machine will be serviced next week and I am itching to start sewing with some new fabric my brother-in-law got for me in New York.
